Changelog

v0.13.1 — 2023-08-06

  • Fixed: Fixed a bug that caused the game to crash when using a PP Up or PP Max, or when using a Rare Candy on a level 100 Pokémon.

v0.13 — 2023-07-27

  • Added: Gym Leader rematches are now available. Simply speak to a Gym Leader after defeating them to rematch one of their teams. More teams are unlocked as you acquire Badges and Gym Leaders may initially face you with one of their more powerful teams if you fight them later than usual. Gym Leaders can be fought in any order except for Giovanni, who must be fought last. Giovanni cannot be rematched at this time.
  • Added: The version of mkxp-z that Pokémon Zero uses has been updated, resulting in large performances increases, especially when using the speed-up feature or in busy locations.
  • Added: You can now access your Pokémon Boxes from almost anywhere using the Boxes option on the menu. Be aware that boxed Pokémon are not automatically healed upon capture but are healed when visiting a Pokémon Center. The adviser at the Pokémon League will inform you that you cannot access your Boxes when challenging the Elite Four.
  • Added: You can now sort your Bag pockets by type or name (or number for TMs). The option to sort will appear when you select any item in your Bag. Now you can tidy up your pockets instantly!
  • Added: Another teleporter will now appear in Sabrina’s Gym after you have defeated her, so that you can quickly return for rematches.
  • Changed: The Bag pocket order has been rearranged to match later generations.
  • Changed: The Itemfinder has been renamed to the Dowsing Machine to match later generations.
  • Changed: Mina’s team will change depending on the number of Badges the player has and how many times they have beaten the Elite Four.
  • Fixed: Mina will now correctly battle the player daily, resetting at midnight, instead of after each defeat of the Elite Four.
  • Fixed: Ability Capsules and Ability Patches now appear in the Items pocket rather than the Medicine pocket. Honey now appears in the Treasures pocket.
  • Fixed: Corrected the Treasures pocket icon which appears when obtaining an item belonging to that pocket.
  • Fixed: Transistor’s damage multipler is now 1.3, down from 1.5.
  • Fixed: Fixed a number of sound effects not playing when interacting with the Pokémon Box.
  • Fixed: Fixed a bug that caused weather and terrain Ability splashes to disappear too quickly.
  • Fixed: The Exp. Charm is now named correctly.
  • Fixed: Corrected some text formatting.
  • Fixed: Corrected some out-of-bounds water tiles on Treasure Beach.
  • Removed: The Item Storage System has been removed in line with later generations, since the Bag has enough storage space for all items. Any item in the Item Storage System will be automatically placed in the player’s Bag. The player can interact with the PC in their bedroom to receive the game’s starting Potion, however.
  • Removed: Now that the Item Storage System has been removed and Pokémon Boxes can be accessed from anywhere, all PCs except for the one in the player’s bedroom have been removed from the game.

Pokemon Zero Gameplay changes

  • Slightly reworked story. Some characters play a larger role and Leaf/Red (the opposite gender of who you’re playing as) is also involved.
  • Most Trainers, including Gym Leaders, have updated Pokémon teams to reflect the extra Pokémon in the expanded Kanto Pokédex. Important battles against your Rival, Gym Leaders etc. will have harder teams than the original games, and later on they will start to use Mega Evolution.
  • Day and night cycles return and have an effect on a few things, mostly what wild Pokémon you’ll encounter and some evolution methods.
  • Move Tutors appear in Pokémon Centers across Kanto, who will reward you with Battle Points and offer to teach you certain moves in exchange for said Battle Points if you complete tasks for them. These moves are from Move Tutors and TMs across games in the series.
  • The Key Stone, required to initiate Mega Evolution, will be given to you during the story. You will also be able to find or purchase all Mega Stones except for Diancite during your adventure.
  • The Exp. Share, which functions as it does in Generation VII, will be given to you when you receive the Pokédex.
  • You can play Voltorb Flip at the Game Corner for Coins instead of the slot machines, if you so wish.
  • Fight in battles reminiscent of Pokémon Yellow against Team Rocket at various points in the story.
  • Beating Blaine’s Gym will get you the National Pokédex.
  • Taking a feature from Sword and Shield, there is now a man by the PC in every Pokémon Center, who acts as a Name Rater, Move Relearner and Move Deleter all in one. Relearning moves is now free, and can remind a Pokémon of level-up moves and its initial egg or event moves. He will also offer to trade your own Pokémon back to you, so that you can evolve Pokémon that require trading to do so.
  • Tackle the Gyms in any order you please, except for the last one.
  • Mr. Hyper now resides in the Pokémon Day Care on Route 5 and offers Hyper Training for Pokémon at level 50 or above in exchange for Bottle Caps. The player can now buy Bottle Caps on 4F of the Celadon Department Store for $20,000 after earning 6 Badges or from the Trainer Tower for 4 BP. You can also earn one daily by defeating Mina in Vermilion City.
  • Similar to Generation IX, a large number of items are available for purchase at the Celadon Department Store depending on the number of Badges obtained, including the Power items, Mint items (after 6 Badges) and PP Ups and Ability Capsules (in the post-game). A few items such as Evolution stones and vitamins are now only available for purchase after obtaining 3 Badges. Also Try Pokemon Infinity.

Pokémon availability

  • The Kanto Pokédex contains 486 Pokémon, almost all of which are available before the Elite Four. This includes every Pokémon in the original Kanto and Johto Pokédexes, plus the non-Legendary entries from Hoenn and Sinnoh, as well as every Pokémon related to them by evolution.
  • Many, many more Pokémon outside of the Kanto Pokédex are available as well during the later stages of the game.
  • Alternate forms for every Pokémon in the Kanto Pokédex are included. This includes Mega Evolutions along with Alolan, Galarian, Hisuian and Paldean Forms.
  • Meltan and Melmetal are part of the Kanto Pokédex. Meltan is given away by a man near the Pewter City Poké Mart. To evolve it, speak to the girl in the Safari Zone entrance building.
  • Regional Forms are catchable in a special area in the Safari Zone. This area also allows Pokémon such as Pikachu, Exeggcute and Cubone to evolve into their respective Regional Form evolutions under the right conditions.
  • The Safari Zone is now just a normal area where you can catch Pokémon without having to play the Safari Game, much like in ORAS.
  • As in Generation VIII, Eevee can now evolve into Leafeon with a Leaf Stone and Glaceon with an Ice Stone, and Pokémon that evolve via special magnetic field such as Magneton can now be evolved with a Thunder Stone. Crabrawler can evolve with an Ice Stone.
  • Affection (which is different to friendship) does not exist. Eevee will instead evolve into Sylveon at high friendship while knowing a Fairy-type move. This takes priority over the evolution requirements for Espeon and Umbreon, so if you want one of those two Pokémon, be sure that Eevee does not know a Fairy-type move when you attempt to evolve it.
  • All Evolution stones can be purchased in Celadon City.
  • Celadon City is also home to some new stalls where you can purchase Fossils and Incense items. The Fossil stall will have expanded stock after the Elite Four is beaten. Note that, as in Generation IX, Incense items are no longer required to breed for specific baby Pokémon such as Munchlax.
  • Other evolution items such as the Magmarizer can be found in the overworld.
  • The in-game trades have been altered, and now come at a fixed level as in Generation VII.
  • There are more Pokémon available as prizes in the Game Corner.
  • The Sevii Islands contain Pokémon outside of the Kanto Pokédex, from across all generations.
  • Silph Co. now has a basement level where Rotom’s form can be changed.
  • Nectars to change Oricorio’s form can be purchased from the Celadon Department Store in the post-game.
  • Kleavor can be evolved by using the Black Augurite on a Scyther in the Regional Biodome when it is emulating Hisui. Similarly, Ursaluna can be evolved by using the Peat Block on an Ursaring at night in the Regional Biodome when it is emulating Hisui.
  • Annihilape, Overqwil and Wyrdeer can all be evolved from their previous form by using the right move (Rage Fist, Barb Barrage and Psyshield Bash respectively) 20 times before gaining a level. Psyshield Bash can be taught to Stantler by a woman in the Pokémon Fan Club in Saffron City.
