Installation Instructions

Drag and Drop Installation (for 3DS/N3DS)

To play Rutile Ruby or Star Sapphire on your 3DS, you will need:

  • A 3DS Family System with Luma3DS installed (version 7.0 or higher).
  • Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire v1.4 (Cartridge, eShop, or CIA install).
  • Plailect’s 3DS Hacking Guide to install Luma3DS on your 3DS.
  • The 7z file for the version and Build you want to play, which you can download and unzip.
  • Make sure that “Enable Game Patching” is turned on in the Luma configuration menu by holding SELECT while booting your 3DS and pressing START to save the setting.
  • Copy the luma folder from the download to the root of your 3DS SD Card.
  • Launch Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, which will be modified into Rutile Ruby or Star Sapphire. You will know it worked if you see the new logo on the title screen or notice Brendan/May’s new outfits.

Drag and Drop Installation (on Citra)

To play Rutile Ruby or Star Sapphire on Citra Emulator, you will need:

  • A functioning Citra Emulator installed on your device, with Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire v1.4 installed on the emulator.
  • If you want to back up your existing eShop install of the game, you can use threeSD to do so.
  • Right-click on Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire in the game picker menu, and select “open mods location.”
  • Navigate up one folder, so that you are in the \Citra\load\mods folder.
  • Download and unzip the 7z folder for the Version and Build you want to play.
  • Copy the contents of the \luma\titles\ folder from the ROMhack download (the folder with the long number) into the \citra\load\mods folder.
  • Start Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, and it will launch as Rutile Ruby or Star Sapphire!

Note

  • If you’re using a Sky3DS cartridge, you won’t be able to run Rutile Ruby or Star Sapphire directly.
  • If you’re using HANS to load the game, it will use your regular OR/AS save file. To back up your original save file on a homebrew setup, use JKSV (which is included!). Be sure not to delete your save with a save manager, or it will become corrupted and won’t boot properly. Instead, delete it from within the game itself.
  • The correct pronunciation of Rutile is “Ru-teel.”
  • This ROM hack allows for local trading.
  • If you’re using HANS to load the game, you can play with updates and online features enabled by running the game normally (from the 3DS System Menu).
  • If you’ve compiled and installed a .cia, a modified version of the OR/AS 1.4 Update is included that will allow you to play online. However, you should not download any updates, as this may cause you to lose features.
  • This hack doesn’t make any changes to the save file structure, so it’s compatible with Pokémon Bank.
  • If you’re using a .3ds or .cia build of the game, you should uninstall all updates to OR/AS before playing, and be sure not to let the game update, or you’ll lose features.

  • This ROM hack isn’t designed for Nuzlocke play, as it’s already challenging without additional rules. The Elite Four are all Lv100 and have six Pokémon, so boss battles play out like competitive matches. This almost guarantees that a player will have at least one or two of their Pokémon faint. However, if you insist on playing a Nuzlocke, I recommend using the Leveled or 679 Build of the game.
