Who We Are

Pokemerald is an independent website for people who love Pokémon fan games. We write about ROM hacks, fan-made games and the guides, cheats and emulator information that go with them. Our name comes from Pokémon Emerald, and Emerald hacks are our main focus today, which is why our homepage is built around them. But we cover much more than one game: ROM hacks for other platforms, standalone fan games and general setup help.

Pokemerald is run by fans, for fans. We are not a studio and we are not an official Pokémon website.

Our Mission

Pokémon fan developers make an enormous amount of creative work, and much of it is hard to find or hard to compare. Our mission is simple: help you discover ROM hacks and fan games that are worth your time, understand what makes each one different, and find the practical information you need to start playing.

How We Approach Our Content

Our priorities are straightforward:

  • Be useful first. A game page should tell you what the game is, who made it, what it is built on and how to get started.
  • Describe games the way their creators do. We try to take names, versions and feature lists from release posts, documentation and official project pages, and we update pages when we learn something has changed.
  • Credit the people who made it. We aim to name the developer or team behind each game and link to their official page where one exists.
  • Be honest about limits. We do not claim to have personally played every game we cover. Some pages rely on creators’ own notes, screenshots and release information, and older pages may be out of date.

Our guide to the best Pokemon Emerald ROM hacks is an example: it takes versions and status from each creator’s own release thread, repository or official site, and says so when something could not be confirmed. If you spot a mistake anywhere on the site, please tell us.

Supporting Fan Developers

Every game we write about exists because someone spent months or years building it for free. We encourage you to visit the creators’ official pages, join their communities, report bugs to them and support their work where they accept it. Please support the official Pokémon games too; fan projects are not a replacement for them.

If you are a creator and would like a page about your project corrected, updated or removed, contact us and we will review your request.
