Pokemon Scorched Silver is a completed GBA ROM hack by creator Sloo, built on the Pokeemerald Expansion and based on Pokemon Emerald. Set 20 years after the events of Gold and Silver, it takes you back to Johto with a brand new story, a new antagonist group called Team Phoenix, over 750 Pokemon from Gen 1 through 8, and post-game Mega Evolutions. It starts you in Cherrygrove City instead of New Bark Town, and it is one of the most complete and polished Johto-based fan hacks available right now.

Best Emulators for Pokemon Scorched Silver

Not all emulators handle Scorched Silver well due to the Pokeemerald Expansion features used. Here is what works:

  • PC / Mac: mGBA 0.10 — the most stable option, handles all features correctly
  • Android: Pizzaboy GBA — recommended by the creator Sloo for Android devices
  • Avoid: VisualBoyAdvance (VBA) and older emulators — these can crash due to expanded engine features

Changelog v1.3

  • Bug fixes and stability improvements over v1.2
  • Released: August 17, 2024

Changelog v1.2

  • Raises wild pokemon levels for easier grinding and team building
  • Nerfed 2nd gym leader
  • Added Macho Brace
  • Fixed bike shop glitch when not having enough money
  • Makes first Lazulan cutscene unskippable
  • More tile fixes

Known Bugs

  • Galarian Weezing can cause minor sprite glitches in double battles — not game breaking
  • Galarian Yamask cannot currently evolve to Runerigus — NPC workaround planned for a future patch
  • Mega evolution symbol may stay on screen after the mega Pokemon faints — clears after battle or when viewing other Pokemon
  • In multi double battles, switching may be blocked if all teammate Pokemon faint
