Pokemon Void is a completed RPGXP fan game created by a developer known as RFG (Rory). It was built using Pokemon Essentials v17.2, runs on PC, and can be played on Android through the Joiplay app. The game is set in the Stronym region, where you take on jobs for the Odin Corporation as you work your way up from a rookie trainer to a serious threat. It was last updated on March 3, 2022, and version 1.9 is the final release.
People search for Pokemon Void for different reasons. Some found it years ago on PokeCommunity or Eevee Expo and want a direct download. Others are new to RPGXP fan games and want to know what they are getting into before committing. Either way, this page covers everything — what the game actually is, how to get it running on PC or Android, what to expect from the gameplay, and some honest notes on where it shines and where it struggles.
What Is Pokemon Void?
Pokemon Void is a fan-made RPG game — not a GBA ROM hack. It does not run on a GBA emulator like mGBA or Visual Boy Advance. It is an RPGXP project, meaning it was made with the RPG Maker XP engine using the Pokemon Essentials framework. On PC you just extract the folder and run the .exe. On Android you need Joiplay.
The game was started in 2016 by Rory as a personal project to learn game development. What began as a single room with a boss Pokemon gradually grew into a full game over about 5.5 years. Rory completed it, released version 1.9, and considers it finished. He was the only playtester, so some minor bugs may still exist — but nothing game-breaking has been reported that stops players from finishing the story.
Quick Note: Two Games Share the Name Pokemon Void
If you searched Pokemon Void recently and landed on something about 115+ fakemon and a Drapalla region, that is a different game — Pokemon Void by Pokedex Fillers, a newer 2026 fan game currently in beta with its own website, Discord, and wiki at pokemonvoid.github.io.
This page covers RFG’s Pokemon Void — the completed 2022 RPGXP game set in the Stronym region. If you want the Pokedex Fillers game, search specifically for “Pokemon Void Pokedex Fillers” to find the right download.
Pokemon Void Story

The Stronym region is being rebuilt by an organisation called the Odin Corporation. They need trainers to raise strong Pokemon and carry out assignments as part of the restoration effort. You are one of those trainers. You join alongside two companions named Chad and Tyrone, and as the story progresses you move up through the corporation’s ranks — taking on increasingly difficult tasks while the enemies you face grow stronger alongside you.
The tone is darker than the mainline games. There is a proper narrative here, not just a region to explore. The main story runs about 12 to 14 hours, with additional secrets and side content for players who want more.
Pokemon Void Features
- 8 Assignments to complete — the main missions that drive the story forward. After finishing each one you receive Zauber crystals that can be used at relic stones to boost your Pokemon’s levels.
- 74 new animated Pokemon species alongside several returning species from the main series. The fakemon designs have been praised by players as some of the better custom species in the fan game scene.
- Enemy level scaling — as you get stronger, so do the enemies. This also means no grinding required. Your team keeps pace with the game naturally through the assignment structure.
- Lengthy narrative — the main story runs approximately 12 to 14 hours, solid value for a free fan game.
- Void affected Pokemon — certain Pokemon in the Stronym region have been altered by the mysterious void, giving them different characteristics from their standard forms.
- Achievements to unlock — optional goals that reward thorough players who explore beyond the main story.
- Lots of secrets to discover — items, Pokemon encounters, and hidden areas are spread throughout the Stronym region for those who look carefully.

How to Play Pokemon Void on PC
Pokemon Void does not need an emulator on Windows. It runs natively because it is built on the RPG Maker XP engine. Here is how to get it running:
- Download the file using the button on this page.
- Extract the .rar file using WinRAR or 7-Zip to a folder on your PC.
- Open the extracted folder and double-click Game.exe to launch.
- If your antivirus flags the file or causes crashes during play, add an exception for the game folder. The RPGXP engine writes to its own files at runtime, which some antivirus software incorrectly flags as suspicious.
- If the game runs slowly, close background applications. Performance depends heavily on available RAM.
Works on Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11. Not officially supported on Mac or Linux, though some players have reported running it through Wine on Linux.
How to Play Pokemon Void on Android
RPGXP games were not built for mobile, so the Android experience is rougher than on PC. That said, it is playable with the right setup.
- Install the Joiplay app from the Google Play Store.
- Inside Joiplay, install the RPG Maker XP Plugin — required to run RPGXP games, available within Joiplay’s plugin section.
- Download the Pokemon Void game files to your device, or transfer them from your PC.
- Open Joiplay, tap the + button to add a new game, navigate to the game folder, and select Game.exe as the executable.
- Launch the game through Joiplay.
Expect slowdowns on older or mid-range phones, especially in areas with many animated sprites. The 74 animated Pokemon species can push lower-spec devices hard. Devices with 4GB of RAM or more should manage reasonably well.
Pokemon Void Gameplay Overview
Instead of collecting gym badges, you take on assignments from the Odin Corporation. Each assignment has objectives to complete, and finishing them earns Zauber crystals. You spend these at relic stones scattered around the Stronym region to level up your Pokemon — which ties directly into the no-grinding design. Battles scale with your progress, so you will always face a genuine challenge regardless of which assignment you tackle.
A few things players have noted worth knowing: Eevee evolutions require specific stones from the in-game shop. Early money is tight, but the Luxus Building sells Regular Sausages for half the cost of Super Potions — they restore 50 HP and are a useful early-game workaround. There is also a Pokemon egg that hatches into an Eevee hidden in the Education District subway tunnel. The Mew puzzle in the first city unlocks an achievement, but the door behind it has no item — just the achievement itself.

Things to Know Before You Start
- RAM matters. The game can run sluggishly on machines with limited free memory. Close background apps before launching.
- Antivirus software can cause mid-game crashes. If the game crashes during saves or file operations, whitelist the entire game folder in your security software.
- Flashing lights present in some areas. The effect is worse when using the speed-up function. Players with photosensitivity should take note.
- No further updates are coming. Rory stated the game is done. Any remaining minor bugs are permanent, but nothing blocking completion has been widely reported.
- Made for the creator’s taste, not mass appeal. Rory was transparent about this. If you want something light and casual, Pokemon Void may not be for you. If you want challenge and story, you are in the right place.
- Community support exists. There is an official Discord with over 1,000 members and a wiki at pokemonvoid.github.io with Pokedex data, stat information, and lore details.
Pokemon Void FAQ
Is Pokemon Void a GBA ROM hack?
No. It is an RPGXP fan game. You cannot play it on a GBA emulator. On PC, run Game.exe directly. On Android, use Joiplay with the RPG Maker XP plugin.
Is Pokemon Void completed?
Yes. Version 1.9 is the final release with a full story, ending, and post-story content. No further updates are planned.
How long is Pokemon Void?
The main story takes roughly 12 to 14 hours. Side content, achievements, and thorough exploration can extend that further.
Can I play Pokemon Void on Android?
Yes, with the Joiplay app and its RPG Maker XP plugin installed. Performance varies by device — more RAM helps significantly.
Who made Pokemon Void?
Rory, username RFG. He worked on it alone for about 5.5 years starting in 2016 and released the final version in early 2022.
Are there real Pokemon in the game?
Yes, alongside 74 new animated fakemon species. Several original Pokemon from the main series also appear in the Stronym region.
What are Void affected Pokemon?
Pokemon in the Stronym region altered by the mysterious void at the center of the game’s story. They have distinct characteristics compared to their standard forms.
What are Zauber crystals?
Rewards earned by completing assignments. You spend them at relic stones around the Stronym region to level up your Pokemon. Since there is no grinding, these are your primary way to gain levels.
The game crashes when I try to save. What is wrong?
Almost always an antivirus issue. The RPGXP engine writes to its own files during saves, which security software sometimes blocks. Add the game folder to your antivirus whitelist and it should stop.
Similar Fan Games Worth Trying
If you enjoyed Pokemon Void or want more fan-made Pokemon experiences, here are some others on the site worth checking out:
- Pokemon Quetzal — a GBA multiplayer hack of Pokemon Emerald that lets up to 4 players explore Hoenn together online. Completely different vibe to Void but one of the most popular fan games right now.
- Pokemon Radical Red — a FireRed-based GBA hack with a brutal difficulty curve, Gen 9 moves and abilities, and a competitive-level challenge. If Pokemon Void felt tough, this goes further.
- Pokemon Unbound — one of the most polished GBA hacks ever made. Custom story, mission system, and a massive amount of post-game content.
- Pokemon Emerald Rogue — a roguelite take on Pokemon Emerald where every run is randomised and different, making it endlessly replayable.
Final Thoughts
Pokemon Void is one of those fan games that flew under the radar on release but built a solid reputation among players who actually tried it. The no-grinding design, the assignment structure, the custom fakemon, and the darker tone all set it apart from the thousands of ROM hacks that just reskin an existing game.
It is not perfect. Mobile performance is rough, early-game money balance is tight, and Rory himself said it was made to his own taste rather than for mass appeal — honest, but worth taking seriously before downloading. That said, if you want a completed RPGXP fan game with a real story, real challenge, and original content, Pokemon Void is well worth the 831MB download.
Use the download button above to grab v1.9. If you run into trouble, the Discord community and the wiki at pokemonvoid.github.io are both active and helpful.
